Matt had to be away yesterday, so we did pasture checks. Both the calf born prematurely last week and this brand new newborn seemed fine in the morning. In the afternoon, we found the newborn with her mother, and she was standing and feeding and seemed fine. Then we patrolled through the whole herd two times and couldn't find the week old calf. Well, the only other place was down in the willows almost a 1/2 mile away where the cattle half to go for water. We started the trek through the snow, and part way down, could see three cows coming up out of the willows. Sure enough, tagging along behind one was the calf, prancing and running through the snow. So she seems to be doing very well.
We are bottle feeding the 9 kid goats up at the Schoolhouse ranch mornings this week- some degree of chaos and hilarity to be sure. Loki and Simon are shown below meeting the kidz!
We fed the goats this morning, had Ginny here for a RI jonnycake brunch, and will be heading to the Doolittles' for supper tonight.
