All's ya gotta do is say you're leavin'

Then things start racing away.  At a million miles an hour.
Last night we did 5 PM and 9 PM calf checks.  Beautiful clear sky brought radiative cooling, and it was single digit temperature by the time we got out at 9.  Sure enough, a newborn!  So from in the womb, to on the field in the snow at 7 degrees- we're talking about a sudden 100 degree temperature drop. If that won't start you breathing!!  Calf and cow seemed fine, but we texted Matt.  He came up to check.  We were anxious this morning to hear, but Matt says she is doing fine this AM.
So now that our plan is set to drive east a week from tomorrow, everyone wants to pack something in.  We had Ginny in for New England boiled dinner between calf checks last night. Today we have 5 and 9 PM calf checks, along with ranch potluck dinner up at the stone house.  Tomorrow, we hope to head up to Freezeout Lake for an overnight stay at a motel with the Doolittles to catch what we can of the snow goose and tundra swan migration.  Tuesday night, back in time for dinner in Livingston with Betsy's cousin Tom and wife.  Thursday night , Sam flies in.  Friday, tea in Jardine- the outermost cabin in the outermost town- with a wolf-watcher friend from sabbatical year, Ilona and her husband Martin. Presumed ranch gathering and dinner, probably here over the weekend- maybe Easter brunch or dinner, then we are on the road early Monday morning.
Hard to believe, and the time will fly.
We may only get one blog off, after the Freezeout trip- that would be on Tuesday, maybe.
