"Wunn't perty! Jest a skiff o' snow come in, so's you could just see a little bit o' the peak!"
Why yes, in fact it was very pretty. Snow squalls were coming through the valley, and the dominant mountain, Emigrant Peak, was all blotted out except a little section near the top showing through. We just had a little trouble catching on that that was what the clerk at the Emigrant gas station and convenience store was talking about!
By the time we got up to the Tom Miner Basin, the horses were suggesting this was perhaps a boatload of snow!
We accomplished our trip for ranch supplies into Bozeman yesterday, with no snow while driving- whew. It was good to be away, as workmen came in and removed a big industrial freezer from the pantry, and removed a very large refrigerator from the kitchen, replacing the two with two nice new large refrigerators. I don't know, and don't even want to know, how they did it, as they had to get these huge machines through narrow doors out onto the yard, with snow drifts between the house and the trailer. Good day to be away. But all was in place when we returned.
Do newborn calves ever become old hat? We did two more calf watches last night, and two more new calves born. Seems we are having about 5-6 new calves born a day at this point. The momma cows surely enjoy a visit to the mud spa for a little scratching on rocks, and rubbing in the mud. Moooo- delightful!
